Sorrento, Italy

italy 12

Sorrento Italy is just as beautiful as everyone says. Sitting right on the sea with mountains in the background make for a picturesque view from every angle.

Flying into Rome, we had a private driver provided by Autonoleggio Pinna drive us to the amazing Hotel Hilton Sorrento Palace, about 3 hours away. There, our room as well as the outside dining terrace overlooked the Gulf of Naples as well as Mount Vesuvius.

The view was breathtaking.

We ate at the hotel every night we were there because after touring all day it was so nice to stay in to eat. The service and food were great. The view was just beautiful so we knew we couldn’t improve on that.

The first day we took a small group tour of Capri and Anacapri. The service was provided by LivItaly. We had a personal tour guide for 7 hours.

Taking a small boat ride around the island of Capri we saw coral and beautiful landscape, and large rocks coming up out of the sea as well as up close views of the famous Blue Grottos.

Back at the port of Capri a driver took us in an open top taxi to the top of Anacapri. There, we walked around the local shops and had sandals made for me while I waited. It was very touristy but a lot of fun.

We took an open ski lift type lift up to the very top of Anacapri. The view at the top was amazing {Very worth the trip up}. Back down we took a walking tour of Augustus Gardens and ferried back to Sorrento port.

The second day we toured Amalfi Coast, Positano and Ravello with a private driver provided by Autonoleggio Pinna again. It was only a 15-20 minute drive from Sorrento to Positano. We continued the drive along the side of the mountain into Amalfi coast and up the mountain where we had lunch Ristorante Salvatore at the top of the mountain in Ravello. The view from our table was incredible of the ocean.

We bought beautiful pottery at the Ceramiche Casola Positano. They had a lot to choose from and everything was made right there. They had everything shipped back for us and guaranteed it wouldn’t be broken on arrival {Can’t beat that}!

Our last day, we had a driver take us to Pompeii. We took a 2 hour walking tour with a specifically licensed site guide. We loved seeing the ancient ruins. Most of the relics have been excavated out and are on display in the museum in Naples but the streets, buildings, coliseum, etc are there as well as a separate glass building right at the exit with the plaster cast people of Pompeii.

Even though we were there only a few days we felt like we had seen everything we had gone to see.

Beautiful area and definitely worth the trip.
