Planned a grand getaway for the holidays? Need a weekend staycation for the big NYE? We’ve got you covered! Whether you’re really looking to get out of dodge and burn vacation days or you only have the Saturday and Sunday to spare, everyone needs a little time to themselves during this time of year. It’s important to choose wisely but it’s also important to be a little spontaneous!
I, Rachel, am a planner myself, and usually need awhile to make a decision. However, we all know those who are totally down to just break away! We recently posted about Singapore and how to make only 24 hours work for you – whatever works! Here is a quick guide to just a few of our favorites, get ready to go!
Our Favorite Weekend Staycations for Those Keeping Domestic:
New York City – Though it may be a slightly pricier option, what could be more romantic than taking a stroll through the big apple during the holidays? Here, the cliche’s are never too lame. It’s just about encouraged for locals as well as those from out of town – they never get old! The tree at Rockefeller is undoubtedly a gorgeous way to get in the holiday spirit and you’ll never be strapped for great food in this city!
Miami – Looking for sunnier skies? Super accessible and never a dull time – why not have add a bit more Cuban flavor to your holiday fun? You and your travel partner will never be sore for activities what with all the dancing, restaurants, and beachfront views. Definitely not that bad for price if you watch the clubbing, we love Miami!
Aspen – For the athletically inclined and you’ve got to admit – for the more financially inclined – Aspen is a great (and potentially romantic) thrilling getaway for the holidays! Hopefully you’re into winter sports but if not, the town has been built up so much you and whomever you’re with will absolutely have a wonderful and gorgeous adventure!
Park City Utah – Keep breaking out the skiis and snowboards! Park City is one of the most active locations on our list for the snow bunnies out there. Yet, have no fear. If you’re more of a indoors kind of person there are plenty of things to do that don’t include throwing yourself down a mountain on your choice of plastic contraptions. How amazing does a secluded cabin in a wooded snowy area sound where you and one other can stay warm inside? Trust us one this one – for this trip something like a Patagonia Fleece is a must!
Boston – For the history buffs… Boston is one of the coldest/ most interesting places we have been. Staying at the Ames Boston Hotel is the best decision you will make when visiting. Faneuil Hall, Fenway Park, The England Aquarium, Boston Tea Party Ships and Cambridge are a few of our favorite family friendly locations to visit. Cheers…where everyone knows your name!
Chicago – One of our favorite cities by far! Grab a deep dish, pull up a chair with a view of Lake Michigan, and don’t forget to stop by the Shedd Aquarium! We will mention though, the windy city may be a winter sight for those that don’t mind a little colder weather. However, you’ll never be without an activity – indoor or outdoor! Plus, flights here are usually a great deal! Who doesn’t love a spontaneous and affordable staycation?
Los Angeles – Everyone has seen their favorite actor walking the streets of LA in People Magazine, pumping gas in their car via E! News or busting out car windows (looking at you B. Spears). We cannot promise you will run into any of your favorite tv characters but we can help make your LA trip worthwhile. Hotels are very expensive so looking for an AirBnB in West Hollywood or Santa Monica is your best bet. Things to do while visiting La La Land would be the Santa Monica Pier, Staple Center (ice skating rink, christmas tree), walk Rodeo Drive, hike Runyon Canyon, Griffith Observatory, Chinese Theater and Malibu Beach. A few of our favorite/touristy restaurants are Catch, Craigs, Geoffrey’s Malibu, Toca Madera, Cecconi, and Bungalow. Last but definitely not least; if you are looking for fun bars, The Parlor, Honor Bar and EPLP are our favorites. Slap on some sunglasses, practice your model walk, and step out to LA for a fun glitzy NYE!
Enter The International for A Merrier Time:
Guys – you can actually buy stuff like this – no joke. Anyways. . .
Quebec City – Not too far but you definitely need your passport! Words that have been used to describe Quebec; enchanting, magical, etherial, breathtaking. Literally there are cobble stone streets! With it’s compact and walkable layout, incredible ranking food scores, and reputation as a history buffs dream – why aren’t we already in this glorious wonderland? Don’t forget to capture the moment – this is the Cannon I personally have my eye on!
Barbados – Oh Nah Nah– in my Rihanna voice. Once a British colony and now it’s own incredible country, Barbados is a hot spot of a tropical destination that won’t break the bank. Yet, the exchange rate definitely isn’t the highest selling point! This gorgeous little island country is anything but little in it’s culture, vibrant people, and amazing flying fish sandwiches. The Bridge Town part of the island tends to get a bit packed so don’t be afraid to branch out! Here are some pics from my study abroad trip from college in Barbados – thats right, we studied there. No, I never met Ri Ri – cue sad face.
Grand Cayman – This Caribbean melting pot of nationalities is definitely making our list! First, out of sheer popularity and the amazing reviews we hear from all sides. Literally nobody has a bad time whether its Seven Mile or one of the sister islands. Secondly, the diving and adventure is supposed to be amazing! Wreck sites, night dives, and even something called “Stingray City”?? Honestly, we are accepting #guestposts for Grand Cayman asap! Thinking belated holiday gifts anyone?
Switzerland – Multiple destinations to choose from here, but why settle for just one? If you’re looking for impressive outdoor view8s more than city visits, this country is for you! From Interlaken to Lucerne, you’ll never be lacking for small town charm and incredible landscapes! Word to the wise – maybe skip Zurich? It’s quite literally the most expensive city in the world for tourists.
Croatia – The newest of the popular tourist places to go, however with no lack of wonder to go around! The multiple islands and incredible landscapes of the countryside are only matched by the Croatian people. RBT traveled there over the summer of 2017 and found only hospitable amazing people looking to share their culture and food. We suggest renting a boat!
Let us know in the comments where you’ve been and where you plan on going! We are always open to a #guestpost or two!
