Valentines for One and All

As you may know, Roads Best Traveled is split between Nashville (Haley) and DC (Rachel) – giving us twice the recommending power! We LOVE themed excursions and any excuse to get people together to celebrate. Valentines Day just happens to be right around the corner so why not plan something a little extra? We know, we know, some like to take the “hallmark” approach and find the holiday overdone or cheesy. However, if you do it right and stay true to what you like, it can be a night to remember! No need to break out the heart boxes and red dresses if you’re not into that. Make it your own!

(However if someone wants to get me a heart box of chocolates I will 100% accept)

We wanted to ensure we laid out the best places in our home cities for wherever your Valentines Day may take you! Picking a place can sometimes be so overwhelming when you’re not sure the style or affect on your wallet. We’re not going to say we can be the authority on all cities but at least in these two – we can give you the local seal of approval! If you’re making it a Galentines day or have a special someone – there are tons of options. We just ask that you keep one thing in mind. . .

~ this holiday is simply about celebrating love ~

It’s quite possible that the one you want to celebrate on the 14th is your bff, or your work bestie. It could even be that guy/gal who maybe you’re not sure where it’s going yet, but you want to make sure they know you care even just a little bit. There is zero need to put pressure on your emotions just because of a calendar. It’s just fun and sweet to make one date night a little more “something”! Most importantly – the one you celebrate can be you! #Selfcare is a huge theme going into 2018 and we couldn’t be more thrilled about it. Some say it’s even an obsession. But we say, there is absolutely no shame in kicking up your feet, making yourself a delicious meal (or ordering in – heyo UberEats). Give yourself a night off!

To those in a relationship and really looking bring out the big guns for your Valentines – we suggest checking out the “Dress It Up” sections of the following lists. There is absolutely something to be said for the traditions of red and chocolates and vanilla scented perfume. Doesn’t mean you have to get a cheesy card, but class and romance are definitely not dead.

If you do choose to go out on the town, here are our favorites from our home cities:

WASHINGTON DC

Low Key

The Pig – this New American eatery has the charm of a quaint DC pup with the

Chaplin’s – Friends, RAMEN. Need I say more? This staple in DC will never fail to meet your expectations – and what else says love like a hot bowl of noddles?!

Tico – Trust me, the Hibiscus Margaritas are UNREAL.

Valentines Day Spy Style – Lips, Locks, & Body Language at the International Spy Museum February 14, 6:00 pm. A deceptive analysis expert  will reveal how seduction is used as a tool in spy reality and fiction and help you become fluent in body language.  Ticket includes a complimentary cocktail, sweet treats, and more tantalizing details!

Outdoor Ice Skating – View this list of outdoor rinks to take your Valentine for a romantic glide under the stars!

Capital One Arena (Formerly Verizon Center) – So, ok, nothing is actually on during Valentines week except Disney On Ice. BUT Justin Timberlake is coming March 18th and you know everybody wants those tickets as a gift!!

Dress It Up

Blue Duck Tavern – A DC Classic, had to list it!

Barcelona Wine Bar – technically I could list this in both sections if you want to get a table or hang at the bar. Delicious small plates and a never ending selection of wines, don’t forget to make a reservation! Also note the bar does get pretty crowded but it’s never a dull moment.

Getaway for the Weekend – have a little more time on your hands? Extend the romance and book a weekend away with your Valentine. Here is a list of some of our favorites but don’t forget that a few days snuggled up at home can be just as sweet!

Roses Luxury – one of the few that received a Michelin star and among the first in DC. You can’t make a reservation so you just show up and grab a drink while you wait! You can either plan for the wait and squeeze in another activity or let this be prime “get to know you” time!

Kennedy Center – The absolutely classiest of establishments. Word has it they’ve got Romeo & Juliet ballet in the queue for V-day week! But if you’re more Broadway or Orchestrally inclined – they have that too!

NASHVILLE TN

Low Key

Henrietta Red – Come casual, come fancy. Henrietta Red is located in Germantown and stole our hearts. Come for the food, leave loving the drinks.

The Mockingbird – A newer spot in Nashville birds comfort food to a modern atmosphere.

Opryland – A hotel/convention center near the Grand Ole Opry. You do not need to love country music to appreciate Opryland.

Bitter Ball Nashville – Single and ready to mingle?? No Date? No Problem. Here is the most anticipated Valentine’s Day party.

Escape Day Spa – Treat yourself or your loved ones to a spa day at the best location in Nashville.

Dress It Up

Etch – One of the best meals I have had in Nashville. Located in the heart of downtown Nashville, the service and cuisine won’t disappoint.

Sinema – A restored historic 1940’s Melrose Theater now serves food and drinks while keeping the cinema atmosphere and playing old classic movies.

Le Sel – A French inspired restaurant located in the center of Midtown. Very romantic if you ask me.

The Ryman – With so much history and amazing acoustics, The Ryman is the play to watch live music. Check their schedule to see who is playing.

TPAC – You’re in luck!! The Sound of Music is playing.

Nashville is a great place with many things to do. With this being said, don’t feel bad for making dinner and watching a movie at home with the people you love. This “special day” is all about showing someone you love them. Don’t let it become a competition on who can spend the most money! 🙂

Share with us your favorite Valentines activities – we may just add to this list!
