Summer Reno Project? Keep These 3 Places Clean

Are you a compulsive apartment rearranger? Me too. At least once a month (if not more) I’m standing around in my apartment starring at an area coming up with ideas. More things? Less things? Maybe a throw blanket or just buy a whole new couch? Yes.. I literally bought a whole new couch in the latest project. The possibilities are endless! Analyze this how you will, yet, I see the compulsion for new space as a sign of creativity. A sign that you’re always growing and trying to find the best in your space. Definitely not a sign of attention deficit or anxiety . . .

Here are the areas that you absolutely MUST keep clean to keep your sanity!

Your Bed

This is the absolutely number one – I can’t stress this one enough. I do it all the time, spontaneously get motivated to rearrange and make the space new. Things get messy! Maybe when you’re switching your closet over from the seasons or trying to move a dresser – the drawers or clothes immediately go on the bed! It’s a great soft, higher place to put jewelry and all sorts of things. The problem is, when these bigger projects go a bit too long – your bed can stay cluttered right up until the time you want to crash into it.

If at all possible – make sure you’re clearing your bed as you go! Your bed is your zen, your meditation. It’s a common finding in most therapies and even feng shui that working on your bed or keeping clutter there is a huge sleep inhibitor! We all know you need to be getting your Zzz’s for the next big project.

It was even found in a recent study by SleepFoundation that women are more likely than men to have difficulty falling and staying asleep and to experience more daytime sleepiness at least a few nights/days a week. So – why would we want to inhibit ourselves by not keeping our beds as our sanctuaries?

The Floor

Don’t look at me like that – I’m talking about your pathways and the floors outside your project area. Mainly, just for mobility purposes – make a hole! Plus, if you’re like me – the inspiration for these projects don’t exactly come at the most timely instances. Usually it bleeds into the night and then trying to make my way through my morning routine the next day turns into a scene from Home Alone.

I’m a believer that these reno projects and ideas should be positive and fun and great additions! So, think ahead here – and make sure that you can easily make the one eye shuffle to the coffee pot in the morning or that clean up isn’t going to make you downstairs neighbors curse your name.

Kitchen Counters

Seems like a weird choice, right? But I’ve definitely been one to pile things up here. However – being that food  is also my number one love – you’ve got to take your everyday routines into account. Either the day of your project or the next day, you’re going to need to eat something, and it’s going to be a pain in the A if you can’t get to your things. When you’re moving into a new place you have so much time to plan and move your stuff around. It’s a different way of thinking when you’re a project person!

Just in the every day, your kitchen counters are this nice, wide open space, ready for things to be set down and stored there for later use. Don’t give in! Don’t give in to their wide open space and welcoming attitude! Kitchen counters are there to trick you!
