Emotional and Health Benefits of Owning a Pet (Dog)

We have all heard the saying “A dog is man’s best friend”… well I can honestly say this statement is truer than true. Your dog/dogs won’t get an attitude with you (if they do it’s hilarious), they won’t judge you and they definitely won’t let you go a day feeling alone.

A dog is a man’s best friend.

I have had my pup for 11 years and she is without a doubt, the best thing that ever happened to me…. I mean look how adorable she is.

I love having my dog child with me every day…. at work, traveling, etc. I also love having my dog sleep with me in the bed. She might be little (5 lbs to be exact) but she is quick and gets out of the way.

As an adult and trying to stay healthy, I started to question whether dogs were a positive thing in our lives or if it is unsanitary to have them in the bed/on the furniture. After much research, I have come to my conclusion….. dogs are better than humans 🙂

11 Ways your dog will improve your quality of life:

  1. Dogs increase your mood. I mean who can look at their pups face and not feel joy?
  2. Having dogs may decrease your risk of cardiovascular disease
  3. Dogs protect children from skin conditions and allergies
  4. Dogs encourage physical well being of its owners. Let’s go for a run and play frisbee!!
  5. Dogs make great service and alert animals. My neighbor once told me he had a condition where he could not hear alarms in his sleep. HIS PUP TO THE RESCUE. He trained his dog to attack (gently) him if there was an alarm of sorts in the house. Could you imagine not waking up to the fire alarm? Yay dogs
  6. Kids with dogs show higher signs of self-esteem. No matter if children are bullied at school, they can always come home to a friendly furry face who loves them no matter what.
  7. They will travel up to 2800 miles to find their owner… has anyone seen Homeward Bound? It’s so great!
  8. Dogs help increase social interactions. I can honestly say I have met so many people in airports while having my dog with me. Everyone wants to come up and pet her…. hello new friends!
  9. There’s never a dull moment
  10. Dogs may help lower stress levels
  11. Dogs are your best friend

Pups are like an immune booster in a cute cuddly package. If you plan to sleep with your pup in the bed, here are a few tips on how to stay clean and healthy:

  1. Wash your hands after petting your dog and before eating a late night snack
  2. Make sure your dog is being treated for fleas and ticks. You obviously do not want fleas in your bed. Gross
  3. After walking your dog, wipe their feet off with a wet one. This keeps the house clean as well as your furniture and bed. In return this will help prevent any diseases in the home.

Before you let your dog in your bed, invite him or her to be part of your nightly self-care hygiene routine. You’ll both be better for it.

I post a lot of pictures and videos of my dog on social media {no shame whatsoever} and in doing so, came across some pretty amazing quotes. Check them out….

“The more boys I meet, the more I love my dog” – Carrie Underwood

“Dogs do speak, but only to those who know how to listen.”– Orhan Pamuk

“Dogs are not our whole life, but they make our lives whole.” – Roger Caras

“A dog is the only thing on earth that loves you more than he loves himself.”– Josh Billings

“Petting, scratching, and cuddling a dog could be as soothing to the mind and heart as deep meditation and almost as good for the soul as prayer.” – Dean Koontz
